Blake's All Natural Foods & Giveaway

These days it's hard to find foods that are all natural. That means, no added chemicals or preservatives... No flavor enhancements, added coloring, etc. Just natural ingredients. Real food. It seems, unless you make it at home, it's likely to have something undesirable added.

That's not to say that these foods don't exist at the grocery store.... They're just few and far between, and usually cost a good deal more than other prepared foods. Next time you're at the grocery store, try looking for all natural foods. The limited selection is astounding! Note that organic and all natural are NOT the same thing ---- try finding organic, all natural prepared meals at a standard grocery store, and get back to me.

These foods do exist! Unfortunately, my motto of "prepared foods are bad for you", has had me so skeptical, I've not really ventured into the frozen meals section of a grocery store for quite some time. Thus, my hesitancy, even with coupons.

I recently received some vouchers to try Blake's All Natural pot pies for free. After checking the brand out online, I felt much more confident about trying this brand's foods. Blake's All Natural takes an amazing, wholesome, family approach to food. They include all natural ingredients, and even have an organic line of foods. Blake's All Natural offers all natural & organic prepared meals and sides that sound absolutely delicious!

Now--- I was expecting a hassle finding Blake's All Natural foods. It's been my experience that not many all natural products are carried at my local grocery stores. I always have to go across town and cross my fingers, hoping to find what I'm looking for at the only natural/ organic food store in a 40 mile radius. I was proven wrong though!!! Blake's All Natural products are found in regular stores. In fact, I purchased them at Walmart! I do live in a small town, so not many of the Blake's All Natural products were available, but my local Walmart does carry the pot pies!

The pot pies are offered in original and gluten free varieties, flavors including: chicken, beef, and turkey. I purchased 2 of each flavor, and served them to my family for dinner. Who better to test foods on than the average American family? Mom, dad, and 2 kids (boy & girl). My husband and I are relatively adventurous with food, but the kids can be quite picky. However, I had high hopes for these pot pies!

Upon opening the pot pies, I was blown away by the fact that they come in paper bowls, rather than the traditional aluminum pans. This is actually ingenious! You no longer have to pry leftover pot pies out of the metal dishes to reheat them. Just microwave them in the paper bowl! This may not sound like a big deal, but I assure you it is... Especially if you have kids who like to take one or two bites and then "save it for later". My kids are famous for this--- So, being able to reheat foods quickly is a big selling point.

How do they taste???

All 3 varieties contain the same vegetables: carrots, peas, and potatoes. The differences are the gravy, seasonings, and meat. My family tasted all 3 flavors. The turkey was a clear winner, followed by chicken, and lastly beef.

Turkey
This turkey pot pie is the epitome of home cooked deliciousness! The crust is flaky and cooks perfectly. It contains large chunks of white meat turkey breast, carrots, peas, potatoes, and a creamy turkey gravy. The seasoning is spot on, and not at all over powering. Each fork full is like a bite of Thanksgiving! The entire family was please with this pot pie, and we will definitely be purchasing it again!

Chicken
For my family, the chicken pot pie was less successful than the turkey. However, it was well received, and we will consider purchasing it again in the future. This pot pie has the same flaky, perfectly balanced crust, but tastes so very different! It has decent size chunks of chicken, accompanied by carrots, peas, and potatoes. Unlike the turkey pot pie, the chicken features a uniquely seasoned chicken gravy, with big bold rosemary and sage flavors. My son and I didn't care for the gravy, but my husband and daughter thought it was great!

Beef
We don't eat a lot of beef, so the beef pot pie was a crap shoot to begin with. While my son was enthusiatic and eager to try this pot pie, my daughter was a hard sell. After tying the Blake's All Natural beef pot pie, it was definitely not a winning choice for my family.

The pot pie has flaky, perfectly balanced crust. It also contains bite size pieces of tender beef, as well as carrots, peas, and potatoes. The gravy is a brown, beef gravy. It's very heavily seasoned, and the rosemary is almost over the top. My son loved it! My husband and I weren't thrilled with the flavor, and my daughter refused a 2nd bite. My thought--- This would be so much better if the recipe included a bit less rosemary.

All of the Blake's All Natural pot pies are family friendly, and cook perfectly. They taste delicious (depending on your palate), and are definitely hearty. We did notice that while they had decent size chunks of meat in them, they were few and far between. It would be nice if there was a bit more meat in each pot pie. As for nutritional value, when compared to other brands, Blake's All Natural pot pies fared just a little better. They do contain more fat & sodium than I'd like in a meal, but the values and ingredients are a bit better than other brands offered. These are definitely a great alternative to home cooking, but should be eaten in moderation.

After my family's experience with Blake's All Natural pot pies, We'd love to try some of their other foods. Hopefully, they'll become available in our area!
